Yesterday, in an interview between Eidos Montréal studio head David Anfossi and EPN TV, the developer said that Shadow of the Tomb Raider ran at "4K threescore FPS" on Xbox One X. However, given the context of the interview and all the information Anfossi was trying to convey, it seemed like there might have been some miscommunication.
Updated August 20, 2022: According to Digital Foundry, Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs at native 4K resolution on Xbox 1 Ten.
Unfortunately, the story made its way onto diverse outlets and social media before Square Enix could provide some description. Information technology turns out that Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't run at 4K 60 FPS on Xbox One 10, but features a few graphical options. You can choose to return it at 4K 30 FPS or 1080p 60 FPS. This is similar to what players got with Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox 1 10 upgrade.
In a argument provided to us, Square Enix said the following.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider volition non run lx FPS while in 4K. To permit for a more customized gameplay feel, the game will include two visual modes: '4K Resolution' which runs in 4K resolution at xxx FPS, and 'High Resolution' which is targeting 1080p at 60 FPS. Both modes will feature a wide variety of boosted enhancements such as HDR, improved physically-based rendering, hardware tessellation, anisotropic filtering, additional dynamic leafage, and more.
While some gamers might be disappointed that the title doesn't achieve 4K sixty FPS on Microsoft'south new panel, the fact that there is a xxx FPS or 60 FPS choice is great. Giving gamers the choice of how they want to feel the title seems like the right approach to development.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is currently bachelor for physical and digital preorder at various retailers. The game should launch on Xbox 1 and other platforms on September 14, 2022, starting at $59.99.
